Tune:  Bless God from whom all blessings flow...

Praise God who gave us Job´s great book,
the more we to its wisdom look,
the better we may see just why
we too at times with sadness cry!

Job little help got from his friends,
as now he days in ashes spends,
they thought it was because of sin
the painful boils now marred his skin!  (2:7)

His wife did neither mercy show,
"Die, curse Jehovah´s name and go",  (2:9)
she told her husband cold at heart
and hoped he rather would depart!

Job didn´t heed her wicked will,
"Though He  me slay, - I´ll trust Him still!"  (13:15)
And in his gloom he made this vow,
"My great Redeemer lives right now!"  (19:25)

You know now why I love that book,
which none of us should overlook,
remember how with grace it ends,  (Jam. 5:11)
God for His own just good intends!

And He who gave to us His Son
and has His work in you begun,
He may you through some shadows guide (Ps. 23:4)
that Christ in you be glorified!
