America First - Really? Udskriv

As president Trump is touring the Middle East and parts of Europe these days he doesn´t conceal his passionate motive:  America first!  And his salesmanship revolves round this issue, what are the interests of America?  He´s  a good salesman and  has success.  He carries with him big contracts that ensure thousands of new jobs.

Fine as far as it goes. However, do I embitter the joy over there when I dare say that America is heading for disaster (a word Trump has often used in political contexts) without the claims of God and our duty to thankfully "glorify Him as God"? Or do we allow  our "foolish hearts to be darkened" (Rom. 1:21) with all that goes with it?  Was Billy Graham right when in his prime he kept crying "America is far away from God!"

When Field Marshall Montgomery spoke at a big victory parade after the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, he didn´t get carried away with the greatness of Great Britain in proud terms, but he did what another big commander-in-chief, king David, did.  He hastened to give honor to God, in fact he made David´s words his own quoting from 1 Chr. 29:11-12:

"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and glory, the victory and majesty, for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours, Yours in the kingdom, O Lord, and You are exalted as head over all, both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all, in Your hand is power and might;  in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all..."

G.B. has doubtless chosen the American leaders´ way with pride and swollen heads, however those were the words from the Bible that Montgomery felt constrained to use in public and in humble reverence to a great God.  O, let us side with him and loathe our empty religious shows that lead us nowhere and welcome back in our lives Jesus Christ as Savior, Lord and King!
