( Luke 14:1-11)

A Pharisee of noble rank
invited as his guest
the Lord who with him ate and drank,
but soon their law transgressed.

A swollen man before Him stood
his need the Savior saw,
his painful body looked no good,
lame was their Sabbath law.

And so the tension did increase,
will Christ the dropsy heal
and spoil the solemn Sabbath peace
and the delicious meal?

But to those hypocrites He said,
“An ox sunk in a pit,
You for its rescue would have sped!”
That´s simple – and that´s it!

Behold, the dropsy disappeared,
it was no fairy tale,
the Savior´s touch the man had cheered,
that grace will still prevail!
