Copenhagen has suddenly become the hub of the Universe.  The host city for the Olympic Games in 2016 will be voted for.  The new hope and “pseudo-messiah” of a bewildered world, president Obama and his wife, plus a wealth of American stars, security people, press people, etc. are here to put pressure on the IOC members in order for Obama to fly home with another victory (“We can do it!”) if Chicago happens to be the choice.  The Olympic Games overshadow everything, and their euphoria makes the global crisis look like a very trivial matter.

What is it all about?

The Olympic Games were, as you will know, a religious celebration in honor of the Greek god Zeus and started as early as 776 before Christ in Olympia.  Since 1896 they have been celebrated with ecstatic pomp and circumstance every 4th year.  Jesus Christ is of course banned from this modern idolatry, while the heathen gods are ceremoniously invoked for the blessings of the games.

While the idolaters make much of their Olympic fire, we as Christians know of another fire.  The fire and power of the Holy Spirit.  “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked to us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”  Luke 24:32.  O, let us be caught by that fire from God!  It happens when He talks to us and opens up the word!  Is there any other short cut to spiritual power?  I know of none. You don´t either, I hope.
