The world is false, yet full of smiles,
while hastening to its doom,
its promises are full of lies,
its end unceasing gloom!

It has religion of its own,
built on the pride of sand,
the seed of sin it here has sown,
repays God´s righteous hand!

“Show grace to me, a sinner just”,
the tax collector cried,
he hardly dared that grace to trust ,
yet God him justified!   *)

But not until we get that low,
our life will be a lie,
yet once as sinners Christ we know,
we Heaven´s joy draw nigh!

And so we Christless hopes defy,
religion at its best
will never help you when you die
and never give you rest!

Despite the world´s deceit and lies,
in love God gave His Son,
your longing soul He satisfies
in Christ, the only One!
