As I´m sitting here at my computer at the window facing the smiling morning sun. This became an object lesson with this message whispered to me, "That the way the free grace in Jesus Christ is!" I didn´t do anything to make myself worthy of that smiling sun. I didn´t work for it. I didn´t study it. I didn´t go through a strenuous, mental process to "understand" it. I didn´t wait till I was emotionally excited enough to enjoy it. No, I´m sitting there at the right place and let it shine on me just as I am.
Oh, I often say to myself, "I need grace to understand what grace really is!" The grace the Lord has bestowed on me is so undeserved and so free that I have every reason to meet others with the same smiling grace. It was grace exhibited in the life of a follower of Jesus that drew me to Christ. It was not his theology. There were those that pounded the hammer of the law on me as a boy. Do you know what that did to me? Nothing! Or rather, it made me more rebellious. I clearly remember that. Then one day I was overpowered with the gospel of grace. That legalism couldn´t do.
Sometimes I pause before the Lord and say, "Why me?" I had all odds against me. My family surroundings were not favorable at all. And yet " It is the God who commanded (sovereignly!) light to shine out of darkness who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." 2 Cor. 4:6.
I´m reminded of that light this morning facing the sun in the east. Indeed, I´m reminded of that light of glory coming from "the face of Jesus Christ" – not from mine.
