The Lord´s Prayer at the Bedside

Beloved,  A Danish friend of mine shared with us this true story that warmed my own heart.  The point of that story coming from a hospital nurse was that even the smallest thing has greater value than the biggest thing without meaning or value.

The nurse was not supposed to tell about Jesus at her hospital. (We are in Denmark, mind you!)  However, a daughter had asked the nurse in question to see her bedridden mother filled with fear which was really the condition in which the nurse found the patient.  “Do you usually say the Lord´s Prayer?” the nurse asked her, which the old mother quietly confirmed.  That small event was dutifully recorded by the nurse.  By her superior she was later asked, “Do you mean to say that the Lord´s Prayer may be helpful?” which the nurse affirmed.

To make a long story short, the Lord´s Prayer was written down on a sheet to have its permanent place at the bedside table, and everybody on duty was assigned to say the Lord´s Prayer with that elderly lady.

Now, think of that prosaic story which in a touching way tells us how little things may have a big meaning.  The “little” nurse was not allowed to tell about Jesus, and yet she finds her own meaningful way by discreetly inquiring of the Lord´s Prayer, and now the Lord´s Prayer is said by all the co-workers connected to that particular ward!  Only God knows what that may lead to.  Even the Lord´s Prayer may lead to saving faith in the sovereign plan of our saving God.

Love makes us inventive, are the words in a Norwegian song.  So true!

So, my friend, never despise “little things”.  You never know what they may lead to!
