Daily Easter in Our Daily Walk with the Lord

“If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them!”  (Joh. 13:17)

Martin Luther once said something like this, “We should live as if Christ died yesterday, rose from the dead today and will return tomorrow!”

The Ephesians is a powerful epistle about our positional union with our glorified Lord. Eph. 2:6 says:  “God…raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”  It doesn´t say that God will raise us up, but He has already raised us up with the Easter triumphant Christ.

The NEB has an interesting translation:  It says, “God…enthroned us with Him.”  As born again believers we share His throne of power by virtue of which we may live victoriously.

However, our empirical enjoyment of this high position with all that goes with it presupposes an obedient walk filled with His Holy Spirit.  I believe that Col. 3:1-17 bring that out.  We may know it all, we may even have a good seminary background, we may know what it says in Greek, Latin and Hebrew, and we may master systematic theology, but if sin, even the “little” sins, are not dealt with before God, spiritual truth is but dry powder without the ignition of the Spirit.

There´s so little consistency in the church.  I knew a married couple who lost their baby.  Their pastor said, “I´ll call on you very soon.”  He never did.  The married couple was embittered and left his church, which was wrong of course, but their pastor was wrong too.  He connived at his “little” sin by not keeping his promise.  But it was still sin.  And on he went with all his sermons.

So don´t let this Easter Sunday be just a dressed up Sunday show with superficial enthusiasm, a lot of hugs, smiles and cheers, but let it lead to a powerful experience in a prosaic weekday in obedient discipleship to the glory of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ.
