”Didn´t you know that I must be in my Father´s business?”  (Luke 2:49)

When as a salesman I was on the roads all the time I often had some hitchhiker with me in the car which was usually a fine opportunity for witnessing.  A conversation would start with the hitchhiker´s question, “What are you doing?” and I would say, “I´m travelling for my Father´s business, He is incredibly rich, and the goods we´re marketing are beyond competition!” And the conversation went on from there. -  Oh yes, I was a salesman working for a Danish company, but my real business was and is my heavenly Father´s business, i.e. the cause of the gospel.

When I visit a foreign country, I´m well aware that I´m a guest of the country, and as a guest I don´t meddle in the political issues of that foreign country.  I´m not perfect, in fact I do a lot of mistakes and sometimes put my foot in somebody´s mouth, but I try to keep in mind that I´m an ambassador for Jesus Christ however imperfect I am.  I once went to a political meeting though.  I was invited to a John McCain meeting at the Fresno University, Ca.  It turned out to be such a blessing!  Why do you think?  I talked to a few people and next to me in the big audience was sitting a young high school teacher whom I got acquainted with and later led to the Lord.  So I was there all right, but in my Father´s business!

Denmark became infamous the world over for spreading insulting Mohammed cartoons.  My people thought we could do that because we have “freedom of speech”.  Sad to say many professing Christians had that attitude too, and they also feel it´s their business to warn against Islam and thus spread an atmosphere of fear.  I oppose that kind of business.  My Father says, “Fear not! Preach the gospel!” and so our business is to show forth His love to the strangers among us whether they are Moslems, Hindus or whatever.  Or what do you think?

I like to be the guest of Christian homes, but I prefer a park bench for witnessing to somebody rather than taking part in a party or a barbecue among worldly church goers.  However, it´s still a treat to meet with Christians committed to the gospel for mutual encouragement in our Father´s business.

“Didn´t you know that I must be in my Father´s business?” No, they didn´t know at that time.  They soon did.  May that be said of you and me too.
