God´s Long Long-Suffering

”My Spirit shall not always strive with man…” Gen. 6:2

The apostle Peter answers the question why God hasn´t already judged with fire sin in all its hideous forms in this world:  ”The Lord is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”  2 Pet. 2:9.

My thoughts go my own precious country and Europe, but also to that great nation where part of our flesh and blood is living, ”the golden state” of California, maybe the most homosexual state in America.  I´ve just read that a bill was passed and signed by governor Schwartenegger concerning a special ”Harvey Milk Day” on May 22 (his birthday).  He was brutally murdered in Nov. 1978 and has become a homosexual martyr.  His day will not, as I understand it, become a state holidy but will be solemnly celebrated in many schools where the minds of innocent kids will be influenced by corrupt sexuality.

Why does God allow all this?  Why did Obama award the Harvey Milk cause with ”The Presidential Medal of Freedrom” while God Himself is silent?  Again we can only refer to the apostle´s inspired words:  “The Lord is longsuffering.”

But even God´s longsuffering has a limit.  In Noah´s days God said, “My Spirit shall not always strive with man”, and so that corrupt generation got a respite of 120 years, during which time the testimony of Noah, “the preacher of righteousness” (2 Pet. 2:5), was in vain.  They probably ridiculed him and his warning of a coming judgment.

Oh yes, we live in the dispensation of grace as so often pointed out.  It rests on a misunderstanding, however, if we believe that the gospel of grace should be preached without warning about a judgment to come.  Read how Paul preached (Acts 24:25).  Every preacher of righteousness whom God has sent preaches that way.  The joy is there – thank God! – but a sense of holy gravity is also there.  Worldly, stagey shows on Christian platforms are just watering down that gravity as a mockery of Calvary.
