“Then the Shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God….”  (Luke 2:20)

Tune:  God moves in a mysterious way…

The shepherd men returned to what?
To angels´ song of praise?
Oh no, the fields were still their lot
With rough and moody days!

And yet their days were not the same,
Their hearts were filled with joy,
Their voices praised the Savior´s name
Born as a baby boy!

The light of glory they had seen
Did not appear again,
This lack of thrill, though, did not mean
Their Christmas was in vain!

And now their fields seemed still more green,
Nay,  beautiful and clean,
On Heaven´s presence they would lean
In every day´s routine!

When with the shepherds our day
Shows forth a smiling face,
Our private fields do not grow grey,
For cheerful is God´s grace!
