“Mary…sat at the Lord´s feet and listened to His teaching.”  (Luke 10:39)

The day before yesterday I bought a new, ESV Bible (“English Standard Version”), and I already love it.

I said to the shop assistant in Lompoc, “I don´t want a Bible with Jesus´ words in red letters as if His words are more important than the rest of the Bible.”  She understood that, and I think she agreed.

“I don´t think I want a “Study Bible” either”, I said.  Don´t get me wrong, I don´t look down on Bibles with useful notes.  The “John McArthur Study Bible” is an excellent work, and as far as I can see, I agree with his helpful notes by and large.

But my immediate need at this juncture is to learn the secret of The Holy Spirit´s applying the inspired word to my heart in my closet “for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”  (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

No scholar, no commentaries, no seminary, no theological divines, can replace the teaching of the Holy Spirit.  “Taught by the Spirit” (1 Cor. 2:13) and equipped by Him is our watchword.  Unfortunately, most restless Christians know very little of that secret.  They are too busy.  However, “the University of Mary” (at the feet of Jesus,  Luke 10:39) is by far the very best Bible School!
