No matter who wins on Nov. 6, the awesome U.S. do remain "The divided states of America."  To me it´s so moving to listen to the voices of school children under their banner chanting, "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

The beautiful ideal of such a nation is however one thing.  Its apostate condition is something else.  At the big Epcot exhibition in Orlando where many nations had a stand, I was especially impressed how the Americans presented their cause and history.  I wish I had the accurate wording with me, but it was about how it all came about. This is what I was told:

At some solemn gathering the leaders suggested that all differences should be forgotten and instead agree on invoking God with bowed knees for their young nation that then became "The United States of America."

I don´t argue that those men were all born again Christians but I believe they had a humble awe for God without whom there wouldn´t be any real nation.  Again the nation was not the church, but it was saturated by the church and its outstanding spiritual leaders.  Who is the church anyway?

We shouldn´t just refer to the 300,000 churches or so, but rather catch the vision of what God calls His church, i.e. that body of born-again believers who defy any unworthy church competition boldly exhibited on each street corner with "attractive" posters that try to outdo each other.

I don´t ask you to withdraw from your church set-up, but I do challenge you to lift up Christ as being one with His own and be filled with His Spirit with "eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit"  (Eph. 4:3) - that unity that already exists in Christ and came mightily about on the day of Pentecost.

What happens now on Nov. 6 is important of course, but what is more important is the awakened testimony of the followers of Christ.  Do you know of any better way of being useful for your country and the church?
