“They were only shadows of the real thing – of Christ Himself.” (Col. 2:17)
”Why are we here?” I put that simple question to a loyal churchgoer Thursday night. ”To celebrate Easter”, was her reply. You see, in Denmark the Easter holidays begin on Thursday – ”Maundy Thursday” – already. – “But are we in the Bible exhorted to celebrate Easter or other festivals?” was my next question.
Now, I´m not picking at festivals as such, but I do believe that they may leave the heart untouched. To say it very bluntly: A saving experience with our Lord Jesus Christ may never have taken place and so a lot of churchgoers are being lulled to a dangerous spiritual sleep just to wake up too late in the eternity - lost!
But believers do believe in celebration, i.e. celebrating Jesus Christ. “Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. Let us therefore celebrate the feast….with… sincerity and truth” (1 Cor.5:7-8). In other words, that kind of celebration takes place continuously and not on special festival days, Col. 2:16, and is for born again disciples only, committed to God´s holy will. Hell is full of festival celebrating souls who never got personally acquainted with our Lord Jesus Christ.
What about you? You may be a most respectable church member without being a true member of the body of Christ and without having become partaker of His divine nature (2 Pet. 1:4). Oh, go as a lost sinner to the Lord Jesus and tell Him the truth about you. For He is a true Savior from sin as well as from false and deceptive religion.
See to it that you get the real thing!
