O, blackbird friend do courage take,
I know what is right now at stake,
the frosty winter gets on you,
I therefore come to your rescue!

The crumbs I bring you do now eat
right on the icy ground we meet,
so feast this morning on that meal,
before the snow it will conceal!

With you I hear a gospel tune
about the spring that´s coming soon,
where your sweet little singing beak
uplifts my soul when I feel weak!

As I this blackbird learn to love,
I feel it´s sent from God above,
nay, I consider it a loan
that Eden´s paradise does own!

When faithless buddies let you down,
don´t on your ups and downs then frown,
remember how your blackbird friend
some gospel joy to you may send!
