"We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house."  Ps. 65:4

Or "the blessing of your house!"  The Danish Bible says, "The riches of your house."  A wonderful word to be reminded of now while the whole world hopes that something good will proceed from The White House and its committed men.
And yet we know that if The White House is not subjected the house of God and its holy laws, the new American administration with its beautiful, old. historic setting will sadly fail.  I once read - and I hope it´s true - that George W. Bush tried to go early to bed to get early up next morning for his private devotion with God.  In the stillness of the morning while some  protecting aircraft was droning way up in the air, he was seeking God.

King David, the supreme commander in chief of his armed forces, humbly said, "One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life."  (Ps. 27:4).  His palace was not enough. He needed within its walls a vestibule in the presence of the Lord,  not built with choice material, but "a dwelling place of God in the Spirit"  (Eph. 2:21-22) to "behold the beauty of the Lord" and take that beauty with him on the battle field.

But that´s what our life with Christ is about also, is it not?

William Gladstone (1809-1898), England´s most renowned statesman till he was 84, was a bold outspoken Christian.  He was my favorite in school.  He had his defeats, too, and  the Queen didn´t like him, but he was committed to Christ and was even a friend of God´s anointed servant, Charles Spurgeon with "the inner citadel of faith" with God as his fortress.

"A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" (Ein feste Burg is unser Gott), Luther was singing.  We join him for God is our fortress too and our hidden "white house" full of the riches of Christ.
