Some friends have been a little nettled at my “misinformation” about the homosexual Gene Robinson´s role at the inauguration of Barrack Obama.  I did one technical mistake, I humbly admit.  I should have referred to the event as an pre-inaugural event at the Lincoln Memorial last Sunday.  I regret that.  The objection has been that after all the real big day is today, Tuesday, where the conservative, bible-believing Rick Warren is to offer the inaugural invocation.

Having said that, and having thus regretted my carelessness, the real issue is not the cast, the set of actors.  Lincoln Memorial was not a trifle, but the very beginning of the big celebration.  It was part of the package.  It was part of the moral standard of  US religion.  So when the gay bishop among other things prayed, “Bless us with anger at discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people” it doesn´t help too much that an anti-gay preacher the following Tuesday  (today) invokes the name of God.  The damage has been done, and can´t be patched up with a good man´s prayer as a stop-gap solution.  Already tomorrow at the national church service, an outstanding Moslem has been invited to offer a prayer to her Allah.  The show must goes on .

Sad to say, many professing Christians don´t see that or they don´t want to.  They don´t see through the disguise of Satan, “the god of this world”  (2 Cor. 4:4) appearing as a charming, disguised angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14) that seems to make the US and many professing Christians happy and  comfortable.

So what are we going to do?  We should still be good citizens and pray for our rulers.  The best service we may render to our nation, however, is not to be a wishy-washy religionist, but a follower of our crucified and glorified Lord and Savior committed to His word of truth.  The lesson to be learned from all this,  is the challenge of lifting up Christ in our lives instead of religion or a particular church.   Patrick Henry´s words are solemnly relevant in this hour of crisis where America is under not only financial, but heavy moral pressure,

“This nation was founded, not on religion, nor religionists, nor Christianity but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!”

The gospel is at stake!
