The European Union is not a real union without a strong, unifying leader of a union with enthusiasm and undivided devotion. Unconsciously Europe is panting for such a charismatic leader.

Henry Spaak, one of the fathers of The European Common Market (the forerunner of EU) anticipated such a “superman” in Belgium radio abt. 60 years ago.  “We don´t know who he is and from where he´ll be coming, but he will come, for we expect him to come!”  His words at that time echoes what the Bible has prophesied about a coming world leader presented as “the beast” in Rev. 13, for in the eyes of God he is but a beast, though cherished as a supernatural genius by the world.

At the moment the European leaders discuss what to do with Greece, and they cannot come to an agreement.  The word everyone is waiting for will not be spoken.  But a coming European superman will speak with unheard authority and will be listened to.

Facing these gloomy prophecies about Satan´s last trump card before the glorious coming of Christ, God still has His redeemed saints in this world siding with Jesus “without the camp, bearing His reproach” (Hebr. 13:13).

An American friend sent me an article about the spiritual decline in the U.S. where the abomination of same sex marriages have been endorsed by even the president, and the article laments the fact that “we´ve become exiles in our own country”.  But that´s what we are anyway.  The word of God addresses us as “strangers and pilgrims” (2 Pet. 2:11) with the charter of the gospel as Heaven´s last ultimatum to a lost world.

Let us encourage one another to lift up the banner of the cross.  It´s not our business to be political debaters but to be wrapped up in the gospel of Christ “to be testified in due time” (1 Tim. 2:6). i.e. right now! For “now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation!” 2 Cor. 6:2
