A fine woman (49) spent an afternoon with us. Through much turbulence the Lord found her less than 10 years ago in His own way which immediately resulted in an unusual hunger for the word of God.  In fact I know of no believer in this district with such a close relationship to her Bible which she carries with her all the time as part of her natural kit.

She´s a bookkeeper for a small company with her own home office. She´s single, but two spoiled cats belong to her household. As she was sitting there with us, radiant and happy,  she reminded me of Lydia in Acts 16.  Lydia was an independent business woman, single, but apparently with a certain household.  Her house happened to be the first private home in Europe that wanted to have it filled with the word of God, and so she immediately after her conversion and saving gospel experience said to Paul and Silas, “Come to my house!” (Acts 16:15).  Her house and business were now subjected to the interests of the Lord.

Isn´t that beautiful?  So that´s what she said to us also as she wanted to have regular bible fellowship with us on the basis of Matt. 18:20.  “You may come to my house also!”  So we make take turns at our gathering unto the Name of the Lord.

We are certainly no “divines” and yet we believe the Lord wants us to “come together” (I Cor. 14:26), - “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together” (Hebr.10:25) in all simplicity with our risen Lord in our midst.  “Who is sufficient for these things?”  (2 Cor. 2:16).  We do have this feeling, and yet “our sufficiency is from God” (2 Cor. 3:5).

The first Christians met in their homes  - “from house to house” (Acts 2:46) – and so will also the last Christians do as we get closer to the Lord´s coming.  Don´t you think?

Do I miss the mega churches with their “contemporary worship” and platform performances?  I don´t think so.  But I do miss Christian homes where the word of God “dwell richly” (Col. 3:16) to enrich our fellowship.
