A kind health care employee came along to offer her assistance in my  old “dotage”.  Our welfare state offers kind services in their efforts to make you feel happy, you know.

I did what you, too, would do, my fellow believer, I shared with her the reality of our living, ever present Savior.   Language like that is familiar to the religious U.S., but over here it´s almost coming from a distant planet, though religion is of course not unknown in our well-bred culture.

She spontaneously asked the question, “What does it mean to you in your daily life?”  I sincerely thanked her for this most relevant question and tried to do what preachers on the pulpit sometimes don´t do.  I answered the question and other questions which “common people”, no matter how ungodly they are, like to ask a follower of Christ.

What a joy it was to be not just an old “dotard”, but indeed an old, alert ambassador for the King of kings that could tell her what a shining perspective the Christian life has for time and eternity with the sense of being under His loving plan and care, the joy of having good news to share with people we meet on land and the word of God as “lamp to my feet and a light to my path”, etc. etc. etc.

Her question or challenge stayed with me.  What does it all mean on my week days?  I frequently meet confessing Christians whose outlook doesn´t seem to be much different to the outlook of worldly people.  The religious frames may be there, on Sundays not the least, but honest inquirers are not asking for religious frame work and eloquent creeds, but for the reality we´re sold on in our everyday life.  The Greek word for “truth” also means “reality”.  Did you know that?  A watching world is waiting to see Christ as a everyday reality, out-and-out, in you and me, rather than  just a mere confession.
