A celebrated, Calvinistic, American preacher is said to have made the statement, that the blood of Jesus in the New Testament is synonymous with the death of Jesus.  That´s all.

Well, that may strictly speaking – or theologically speaking – be true, but there´s more to it than that.  There´s a reason for The Holy Spirit making so much of the blood of Jesus.  Its prominent place is not “synonymous” with prominent theology, but to bring home to our consciences the value of the blood from the cross,

…. “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ…”  1 Pet. 1:18-19

We recently had a study on the “Hebrews”, oh, isn´t that the big, big subject of that epistle?  I hope that will be a recurrent theme in our spiritual fellowship as long as I still have breadth.

One day we dealt with the heresy of the Roman Catholic Church concerning its doctrine of “transubstantiation” (the contention that the Eucharist wine by a certain formula is transformed into the real blood of Jesus!).  O, here was a good and urgent reason for putting straight the New Testament teaching concerning “the precious blood of Christ”, don´t you think?

So don´t just make “theology” out of the blood of Jesus, but apply its preciousness to your troubled conscience, fellow believer, and invoke its power in your conflict with Satan, for “they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb”.  Rev. 12:11
