It suddenly occurred to me how unreal life can be or how real it may also be when calling on a neighbor  in hospital after a fall had damaged his body.  Being old (83) they assess his chances for coming home as very poor.  The next stop will be an old age home.

In that private ward without any platform or stage I felt the joy of being in an errand for Christ. That was real.  But I´m also  in public debates, not because I really want that, as the gospel is on my agenda, but I also have to answer a lot of cantankerous questions that show me how unreal the thinking of unsaved people is.

But in this room we had no interruptions to distract the two of us.  How real my mission had become!  Joh. 3:16 was “the text”.  The Holy Spirit its interpreter.  “What do you usually say when you get a gift?” I asked.  “I say, thank you for that!” he said.  “Exactly! That´s what you should say to the Lord.  “Thank you, Lord, for that!”  For that gift.

I left him with the written word of God on his table and promised to come back. I went to my car heading for another appointment rushing through the streets in the midst of the busyness of this unreal life.  Then later in the afternoon I had Bible fellowship with a handful of friends.  This is real and has a “link” to that neighbor and others we want to pray for.

“Grasp the real life…”  (1 Tim. 6:19, Danish transl.) In this world of superficial unreality, the good fight of faith lays hold on that real life afresh when God sends you to a lost soul with words of life.
