I thought of a dear pastor friend in Lompoc, CA, as I walked into a lovely Starbucks café today.  That pastor would leave his stuffy office to meet people he could share Christ with, and Starbucks is always a good choice.

So I bought my $ 1.95 cup of coffee, glanced through the local newspaper, opened my New Testament too and read some key gospel verses.  I suddenly felt lost.  What’s the use of my Bible verses right now?  How do I approach the modern American some miles away from my computer desk?  I looked around, moaning and groaning before the Lord.

Next to me was sitting a smart looking gentleman in his 60’ies, deeply taken up with his i-pad.  He made many notes, so I dared not disturb him.  Yet I suddenly found myself asking, “Excuse me, Sir, am I disturbing you?”  His countenance lit up with a smile. I was invited to sit down.  His name was Al, a retired engineer but still working on some planning.

I  did sympathize with him as he told me of his son who’s recovering from a bad car accident.  One word led to the other and what a fine talk we had.  It pleased the Lord to open up for my testimony. He kept asking, and I kept answering.  I finally gave him my card.  “I call it my gospel card”, I remarked.  -  “What did you call it?” – “My gospel card!”  I shared with him what the cross on our flag means to me personally.

Maybe we’ll meet again.  I left Starbucks praising the Lord for the way He may open up, especially when you’re feeling lost and good for nothing.  “God plus nothing” is really His way of doing things, isn’t it?  “This is the Lord’s doing. It is marvelous in our eyes!”  Psa. 118:23.
