Last Sunday I was called upon to give a message at a rather big party in this town.  The occasion was the Catholic baptism (or as the English put it “the christening”) of a 2 months old baby – the child of a dear couple very close to us.

You may vehemently object, how could you do that?  To that my evangelistic heart responds, Yes, I go anywhere if an open door is there for the gospel.  So I went to the party  with my wife, but we didn´t go to the Catholic church which to me is a temple of idols, and of course I don´t endorse its so called “sacraments”.

And so I thrust my soul and heart into the word given to me, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”  (Mt. 18:3)

What happened?  Apparently nothing.  I spoke to many church goers, but they evidently didn´t care.  You could tell by the look of their faces.  And yet something strange happened.  A young man came immediately after up to my table and said, “You spoke like my pastor!”  -  “Oh, what is your church?” -  “No, I´m a Moslem, and me and my wife are from Iran!”

Then a couple of Hindus came along with warm handshakes.  “In our religion little children are gods”, one of them said.  That made no sense, but the response was warm and heartfelt.

One atheist there said afterwards, “One never knows, maybe I will be saved some day!”  We had invited him to stay overnight in our home.
But I wondered.  Why no response from the church goers?  Why that warm response from non-Christians?  Had the Lord really sent me there?

I think He did.  I agree with Billy Graham when he says, “I never go to see important people – or anyone else – without having the deep realization that I am an ambassador of the King of kings and Lord of lords.”  What a high calling!
