It was a mere bluff when David, fleeing from Saul, said to Ahimelech, the priest, “The king´s business required haste” (1 Sam. 21:9) pretending that he ran errands for king Saul.  He told a lie, which the word of God is not silent about nor about many other blunders of his.

And yet David was in the King´s business.  The King of kings had anointed him despite his many faults which however, according to the testimony of his psalms of penance, bowed him in the dust before God.  In that many of us identify ourselves with David.

I do at least.  And yet it´s whispered to my redeemed soul, “You are in the King´s business – a business of urgency!”  Shame on me that I don´t always know how to appreciate that high calling.  This coming Monday we´ll be heading for Norway to my wife´s Norwegian family, the major part of which doesn´t know the Lord.  So I get dismayed saying to myself, What in the world is my business up there?

His tender rebuke was, You are in the King´s business!  You are His ambassador, His royal legate, wherever you go!  I´m a retired man, but not retired from His business.  My grandfather was a business man.  A friend once asked me, Was he a business man for the Lord?  Oh yes, a thousand times yes, and that was his spiritual legacy to me.

Take courage then!  Be content to be “a little odd” or neglected.  Your credentials are the good news of the gospel which is the King´s true business at this “accepted time, the day of salvation.”  (2 Cor.6:2).
