(Gen. 32:1-2)
Lo, angels met a faring man, and Jacob was his name, from Laban´s camp away he ran, to Mahanaim he came!
“Two camps” that strange word does suggest: His men and Heaven´s hosts, that served him as a pilgrim guest, as friends and not as ghosts!
By angels Jacob was encamped, though far away from home, from place to place this pilgrim tramped, yet ´neath God´s heav´nly dome!
Despite his blunders God stayed true to every spoken word, to you and me He´s faithful too as pilgrims in His herd!
And if our Savior so commands, we may our “Mahanaim” meet, too, with angels´ serving hands to glorify His name!
Thou God of Jacob, our refuge, in Thee is strength and rest, your love is endless, sky-high, huge, and yet it fills our breast!
