As I was yesterday sitting on ”my” bench in the local market place, waiting on the Lord, I suddenly had a beautiful picture of memory before me from Sanford, Florida, from the year 1988.  At a lake there I had sometimes been watching the strange sight of the exotic pelicans standing there at the lake side ready to go for some fish their great Creator would soon provide for them.

“Have you ever seen a fish coming in that lake?” our host at the New Tribes Mission´s headquarters, LeRoy Larson, asked me with a smile at the breakfast table from which we had the awesome view to that picturesque scene with the pelicans.  None of us had, and yet God knows how to send them fishes in due time, was his point.

I thought of that yesterday being  one of those “pelicans” praying my usual prayer, “Lead me to some soul today…”.  Some “fish”. A gentleman and his wife came along, elderly people.  He was a retired pharmacist with back problems and pains in his legs.  So we had related ailments, and soon our conversation was, of course, about the shortness of life, the certainty of death and the duration of eternity.  “Do you know what Joh. 3:16 says?” I asked the couple with an apparently high IQ.  Oh, no.  “In America any American would be able to tell me”, I said (exaggerating a little maybe).

They had my card and my “silver coin” with Joh. 3:16 on, - “the little Bible”, they sometimes call it in Denmark.  “The Bible in a nutshell”, the Americans would say.  Maybe they were the fishes, the Danish “pelican” was waiting for.  They had been in Greenland too.  “You should go there”, his wife said.  “Maybe you could do the Lord´s work there too!”  I liked that response.  “Well, if I do, I would have somebody make a big sign with Joh. 3:16 in Greenlandic and go some market place”, I smiled back.

Again it was closing time, my bike was waiting for me – my coworker in the fishing of men.
