At the annual  ”National Prayer Breakfast” in Washington with guests coming from abt. 100 countries, incl. Denmark, Obama is supposed to have made this statement in his speech (according to a press release): “When I wake up in the morning I pray and read in the Bible.  But the Bible is not mere words.  It inspires us to action…”

Did he just make a show? Personally I like to believe that these were the honest words of an honest man (and hardly from a Moslem), and I do identify myself with them.  That doesn´t make me an American (or an Obama agent), but it makes me wish a similar, spiritual dimension for our national leaders – or at least for some of them.  This is my point and my point only.

Most people, including church people, have no similar relationship to the Bible despite some homemade religion of their own. I understand them so well, as the Bible was “a city in China” to me too, until I trusted the Lord Jesus Christ.  From then on it became also to me my daily spiritual breakfast and not just a dust collector on the book shelf.  I believe it was Spurgeon who said, “Dust on your Bible is rust on your soul.”
