Or what is Our job?

I often feel tempted to straighten out our government because of its moral laxity and its shameless attitude to same sex marriages, not the least.  But that´s not my job.

If I were an American I would likewise feel tempted to straighten out the Washington administration, but again that´s not my job.

So what is my job?  To preach the gospel!  You may call me naïve or the like.  Well, so be it.  “Do the work of an evangelist” (2 Tim. 4:5) were the words that burned themselves into my soul when Billy Graham in the 70´ies challenged a big congregation about it in Amsterdam.

I can´t put things right in the apostatized churches either.  “Let them alone” (Matth. 15:14) are words I´ve often been reminded of.  But I may, however, put to the consciences of deceived church goers the solemn words of our Lord, “You must be born again!”

Israel had good and bad kings.  In both cases it also had its prophets, i.e. voices in the desert, and no matter what rule the country had, there were doubtless, too, the neglected, godly believers called “the quiet ones in the land”  (Psa. 35:20).

In our home fellowship a “provocative” old man (85) is a little “special”. He is a church member and was converted to Christ in his youth,  so he sorely feels that the message of conversion or repentance is lacking in his church.  He now hands out a very simple paper I was permitted to write on “Conversion”.  Too simple for any “deep” Bible conference!  But he orders new copies for his fellow church goers and surroundings.  If he had been a member of our parliament, I feel certain he would have done the same thing there.  In that sense I believe in “straightening out” our administration, our churches and our neighbors. In the fervent Spirit of the gospel, mind you.

Things are bad in our countries all right – as they were in the Roman empire under which the apostles lived - , but not so bad that we can´t “do the work of an evangelist”.
