60 years ago, on July 25, 1952, the treaty of The European Coal and Steel Community was signed by France, Germany, Italy and the three Benelux countries as the forerunner of the EU (European Union) we know today.

5 years later those six countries signed the most famous of all treaties in the European history, namely “The Treaty of Rome”.  The word “Rome” has prophetic undertones.  The dream of another Roman empire is old.  Napoleon had that dream.  So had Mussolini.  In the 12th article of the Fascist credo it says, ”I believe in the restoration of the Roman Empire”.  The book of Daniel speaks of 4 empires.  The 4th one is the Roman Empire and within its borders Jesus was later born.

The EU has now 27 nations as members and more will be coming.  Europe is now falling apart more or less, till a super leader will take over.  Germany once had her so called “Wirtschaftswunder” (Economic wonder) in the 1950´ies by the genius of Ludwig Erhard (the minister of finance),  and Europe will one day have another financial genius, a supernatural states man of many wonders, described in the Book of Revelation ch. 13 as the “beast”.

Lionel Coeckelgergh, Bruxelles, a former Catholic priest, who turned to Christ as his Savior throwing off his priestly gown,  mentions in a small booklet from 1965, dealing with the apostasy towards Rome, that he once listened to a speech in the radio by the Belgian foreign minister, Paul-Henri Spaak (1899-1972), one of the visionary fathers of a united Europe, saying: “The world in its present condition needs a superman to direct and solve its many difficult problems.  Nobody knows who he is or from where he´ll be coming.  One thing is certain, however, he will soon be coming for we are expecting him.”

Rev. 13:11 also speaks of ”another beast coming up out of the earth” (or the land), elsewhere described as “the false prophet”.  It seems to be identical with the ”foolish shepherd” of Zech. 11:16-17 raised up ”in the land” (Israel).  Will he be the personal, religious Anti-Christ with a supernatural charisma awed by the whole world?  A Jew?

H.A. Ironside in his book ”Revelation” tells us of a Jewish lecturer, Dr. Mosinsohn, he once listened to at “The University of California”.  The speaker referred to great religious leaders  coming from the East like Moses, Buddah, Confucius, Jesus, etc. and then he said, “If you will restore the Jew to his ancestral home it will not be long until we will give you another religious leader who will perhaps transcend all who have gone before.”  Ironside said, “We felt that we were listening to a John-the-Baptist of the Antichrist, so startling was the announcement.” (page 248)

Europe and America not the least are waiting for a supernatural genius.  The crisis stricken world can´t wait much longer.

But God´s people are also waiting.  “The people were in expectation”  (Luk. 3:15), and so are the followers of Christ.  I do not mean formal Christians by name only whose worldly mind doesn´t expect anything coming from the Lord however religious or “churchy” they are in the outward.  Oh, what a self-delusion!

But the story from old will repeat itself and will be very much like the time at the Lord´s first coming.  There will be a group of “outsiders”, a minority, waiting for the Lord like those watching for the morning (Psa. 130:6).  And they will join the concluding cry of the Bible, ”Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev. 22:20).
