Spreading the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere….”  (2 Cor. 2:14)

”Win them for yourself and then for Christ” are the orders of the day, aren´t they?  I do want to learn more of that noble art as my New Year wish.

In our nearby recreational area it´s easy to talk to people, the dog owners not the least.  If you say something nice about their dogs, the contact is immediately there.  With the dogs as well as and with their masters.

A married couple with two dogs came towards me on the very day after Christmas. ”Merry Christmas”, the man said.  My ”stupid” question: ”I´m a stranger here, so please tell me, what do you mean?” His wife said, “It´s the birthday of Jesus!” I then exclaimed,  ”In other words it´s about Jesus!  But I feast on Him every day!”

The man swore that he didn´t believe in anything despite the fact that he´s a formal member of our Lutheran Evangelical State Church (abt. 80% of the Danish people are). I said, “But once you´re in your grave with your mouth full of soil, I´m sure you won´t be so sure of yourself.”  He now played his trump card, “I´m going to be burned!”

I reminded him of the fact that no burning will exempt his soul, i.e. his immortal personality, from an eternity where God will be the only judge.  I told him what a blessed and light eternity with Christ I´m heading for.

”It´s a question of what you believe”, his wife said trying to show a more conciliatory attitude.  “Yes”, I said, “but it has to be a faith resting on a solid and trustworthy foundation, the trustworthy gospel itself, and not a belief coming out of thin air.”

I now felt that the audience was over.  The wife received politely my gospel card, but her husband didn´t want anything.  “You think you´re the only one that is right”, he bit me off.  However, our conversation was over for now…
