”Not I, but Christ”, Paul humbly saith,
his proud religious “I”
at Calvary had found its death,
with Christ it had to die!

Who was this man once big and proud?
A pious slave was he,
but when for Christ he deeply bowed,
he was indeed set free!

And soon he saw his legal life
as empty with no worth,
replaced was all his selfish strife
with a divine new birth!

His passion now was Jesus Christ
as Savior and as Lord,
all gain he gladly sacrificed,
its charm his soul just bored!

“Not I, but Christ”,  sets us, too, free,
the secret of our joy,
the world of course will disagree,
but can´t this thrill destroy!
